It is a breakfast that can be commonly found in Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei. It is made by steaming rice with coconut milk. Other things such as pandan, ginger, or lemon grass can also be added for additional fragrance. Traditionally, this dish is served with cucumber slices, ikan bilis or small dried anchovies, roasted peanut, kangkong or stir fried water convolvulus, hard boiled egg, and sambal or spicy sauce. Sometimes, fried chicken, or achar or pickled vegetables can be added. In Indonesia, nasi uduk is normally served with fried chicken, beef, or offal. However in Terengganu and Kelantan, Malaysia, this dish is normally served with tuna fish curry and vegetable pickle.
